To: Members of the Transvaal Scottish Regimental Association and interested parties
Due to the removal of all “colonial” items from the various CF Regiments’ HQs, a space has been made available at the Ditsong National Museum of Military History, Saxonwold, for these Regiments to display their memorabilia. The display will be known as the ‘Regiments Room” and will have displays from most of the traditional Regiments such as the Wit Rifles, Rand Light Infantry, Johannesburg Regiment, Transvaal Horse Artillery, SA Irish, and SAS Rand et al.
The Transvaal Scottish however has The View, where our museum is housed and as such we declined the initial offer to participate in the display at the War Museum as we felt this would be a duplication of our existing museum (there was also a cost of R150K required to have a display space).
However, we do believe it is important that the TS be included among the other illustrious Regiments on display and we have negotiated with the organisers to have a smaller space in which we can have a TS display. In this display we will also direct any interested viewers to The View to see the much bigger display of the TS history.
The cost of having this display is R 25K and as you might know, the TS Council is extremely cash strapped at the moment.
So we are asking members and interested parties to please make a donation toward this project as we believe it is important that the TS have a presence amongst the other Regiments in the Regiments Room at the War Museum.
